I’ve seen a number of blogs taking fault with the Department of Homeland Security’s and recent seizure and deportation of Yusuf Islam (a.k.a. Cat Stevens). Now I don’t know why they are objecting because they aren’t saying why, just that they think its wrong. Why is it wrong? Is it because Cat Stevens was a famous and very talented musicians? (how very Republican - two societies one privleged one not) Is it because they don’t think anyone should be detained and deported (that dog don’t hunt)? Is it because its something that the Department of Homeland Security’s is doing and they are objecting as an act of political objection to he formation of that department? Are they objecting because the US does let in favoured terrorists and so is hypocritical? (this I can accept) Or, are they objecting because they don’t think there is anything wrong with Yusuf Islam?
I truly hope it isn’t the latter because the man has supported Islamic terrorist organizations. Worse yet he publicly used his fame with the Baby Boomer generation to promote his agreement with the Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini’s fatwah against Saloman Rushdie that declared a death sentence against Salman for a novel he wrote (he later did a flip flop but only after much public outcry and particularly a sharp decline in record sales). Sorry gang - he should be kept out of North America. Choices have consequences. He made his choice now he gets to pay the consequences.
Why was it stupid for the US to refuse him entry? Because he was refused because of his opinions, not because of illegal acts. He wasn’t arrested anywhere else, was he?
Especially as you can consider millions of Americans, supporters of Bush, to be a threat to America and the world. I wouldn’t want to refuse them entry into Europe. Just imagine.
For the fatwah against Rushdie alone he’s been placed permanently in the ‘asshole’ column. At least by me. Great musician, incredibly ignorant politician and mindless follower. Religion is evil.
