They’re Baaaack

Every year we get infested with these Western Conifer Seed Bugs (Leptoglossus occidentalis) known around these parts as Cedar Bugs or Stink Bugs. They are incredibly annoying. They invade houses in the fall and overwinter in walls and attics. That’s not the annoying part. If that’s all there was to them then we could live with that. No, it’s two things, the way they fly and their defence mechanism. To put it bluntly they fly like drunk stunt pilots and make a loud buzzing sound as they do so. If you’;re in the same room as them they will almost certainly hit you and get defensive. When they feel threatened they emit a nasty, nasty odour and it doesn’t take a lot to make them feel threatened.
It’s really impossible to keep them out of your house as well. I thought this year we were going to escape the infestation, but nom it was just a little later than usual. So far though it hasn’t been too bad, I’ve only tossed three out the window so far. Technique? Grab them with a kleenex (they play dead rather than fly away usually and then toss them out the window. That way when they try to spray you they get the kleemex . You still have to wash up afterwards as the oil does go through the paper but not completely. I hate the little f&$*ers.
