BC Delivers

30 December, 2004 (08:20) | Political, Sociology

British Columbia’s Premier Gordon Campbell announced today that BC is donating $8 million dollars immediately to the Red Cross tsunami relief efforts. This is an awesome $2 per resident and a damn good use of our tax dollars, especially considering that the areas devastated by the tsunami are part of the pacific rim, as is BC, and we do a lot of trade throughout the rim. That’s not the reason to donate but it certainly doesn’t hurt.

If you need a reason to help these people in the light of this disaster then you are doing it for the wrong reasons. However, having said that consider the following. Some of the areas that were worst hit are hotbeds of Islamacism. If the west goes in there and helps with no strings attached, no proselytizing (political or religious), what kind of impact do you think that will have on the general population the next time some imam starts spewing vitriol on how eveil everyone in the west is?
