New Toy

29 December, 2004 (18:44) | Hiking, Personal | 3 comments

I don’t like hiking around town, just walking the streets. I just can’t motivate myself to go out and do that even though I desperately need the exercise. However, the days are too short for a lot of the year to go hiking in the woods after work. Solution?

Mug Erskine Kellie, better known as Avery Ant and his One Minute Rant, dropped by today and left me a comment in my guestbook pointing to two of his creations:
Here’s a fun 60 second rant about the amorous shenanigans of Bill O’Reilly and his right wing pals.

A Challenge, pick it up and pass it on

27 December, 2004 (21:22) | Blogging, Sociology | 4 comments

This is an open challenge to all bloggers to contribute a nominal sum, specifically earmarked for the tsunami survivors, to the Red Cross or some other organization that is trying to help them. I just contributed $35 Canadian which is about $30 US. The challenge is to meet or beat that. If you [...]

Canada’s relief efforts

27 December, 2004 (16:15) | Science | 1 comment

The Canadian government has clarified it’s relief position and I’m glad to report that it certainly seems to be better than this morning’s as reported on CBC radio. Essentially we’ve sent $4 million and will send more as soon as we know what is most needed.

For me this is way cooler and more useful than the iPod. It has some flaws as the article points out but this is the first of its kind. Each generation will get better.

snowshoeing

26 December, 2004 (16:44) | Hiking, Photography | 1 comment

Over the past 36 hours we got 9 inches (30cm) of fresh snow so I decided to go snowshoeing today. What a workout. Unfortunately I forgot to take a water bottle with me so about half way through the trail I was on I decided to head back because I was getting very thirsty. [...]

25 December, 2004 (22:05) | Food | No comments

I’ve mentioned before that my grocer hates me. If there was any doubt in the past it has been eliminated when cruising the store on Christmas Eve I couldn’t help but notice the rather large number of new cheeses occupying centre stage by the deli. Well. it being Christmas and all I had to try [...]
