Credible? I don’t think so.
Frank points to a Wiki article talking about a certain circle jerk conference, calledBlogging, Journalism and Credibility: Battleground and Common Ground taking place at Harvard right now. While the meat is, as Frank points out, in the references at the bottom of the article, I was rather taken with this:
“One of the problems [with blogs],” said Dan Gillmor of Grassroots Media Inc., “is that any random website can look as good as any other website. We’re going to be working this through for a long time. We’re going to have to tell people, be skeptical.”
I wonder if Dan had the cojones to follow that with something like “the problem with modern, traditional media journalism is that any media outlet can self-edit its content to present a worldview that is at odds with reality and by doing so influence the worldview of its customers. We’re going to have to tell everyone to view the output of traditional media sources with skepticism.” Somehow I doubt it. So much for credibility.
