If you can’t stand the heat…..

29 January, 2005 (17:13) | Media

One of the best news documentary shows on TV, for several decades now, is the CBC’s The Fifth Estate. Earlier this week they did a show on the overwhelmingly conservative bias in the US media and The O’Reilly Factor was smack dab in their gunsights. It was a good documentary. O’Reilly had been given an opportunity to appear on the show but he chose not to. He prefered to take the coward’s way out, as usual, and wait for the show to air so he could vociferously complain about it. God forbid that he actually appear on the show and stand up for his beliefs and defend his lies. Because you see folks that is just wat that documentary did, expose a lot of his, and other conservative broadcasters (no way I could ever call them journalists), lies.

From the intro to the program:

The United States is in the midst of a very un-civil war. It’s a war of words that’s pitting conservative against liberal, that’s already divided the country into red and blue. The new gladiators are commentators like Bill O’Reilly and Ann Coulter and their forum is the television studios of networks like Fox. It’s loud, it’s raucous, but does it have anything to do with the truth?

Oh yeah and this is the same show in which Ann “no lie to absurd to tell” Coulter argues with CBC journalistBob McKeown over Canada’s role in the Vietnam War. Canada’s only role in that war was as a safe haven for some 200,000+ draft dodgers (although some Canadian civilians who apparantly lacked cranial resources actually went south of the 49th and volunteered to fight in Vietnam). But our dear Ann, a person who fittingly exemplifies the popular conception of blondes (one is left to wonder how she got her ivy league law degree, I doubt it was by studying), keeps insisting that we, that is Canada, sent troops to Vietnam as a loyal ally of the US (hahaha she obviously never paid too much attention to the rather frosty relations between several of our PMs, especially Trudeau, of that era and Washington).

Norm has a copy of the Coulter interview available here. She gives a whole new levl of meaning to the term ditz
