A Thought on the Oscars
The mark of a good actor is that he, or she, will make you completely forget who it is you are watching and instead become completely involved in the charcter he, or she, is playing. this, of course, is easier for a relative newcomer on the scene than it is for an established star but if someone is a star you would think they ought to be able to pull it off. Leaving aside the awards for other aspects of the craft, the Oscars are supposed to be about superiority in acting ability. This ability doesn’t really seem to take precedence anymore. Now, it seems, anyone with the right body, and a mere soupçon of talent, can becomer a star through massive publicity. The Oscars are, and mostly always have been, a true farce.
