A Day in the life of …

2 April, 2005 (19:34) | Political

I haven’t been up to Nelson for about 3 years now maybe a bit longer. It’s really a nice town nestled in the heart of the Kootenays. The main reason I haven’t gone there is simply because after the divorce I had no transportation until last fall and Nelson is about 85KM (53mi) from here, a bit far too walk :)

Anyway the roads were clear today and the sun was out so I climbed inside the Cherry Bomb and headed for Nelson. My hope was to buy a pair of good slippers, ones that would hold up well to the occasional trip outdoors in the winter to the compost pile, while also capable of taking my new orthotics and keeping my feet warm (perennial cold feet). It’s important to wear foot orthotics as much as possible. Go figure, most shops only keep men’s slippers in stock for Christmas. None of the stores in Rossland or Trail had anything so I decided, it being such a nice day and all that, to go for a drive to the big city (Nelson is a bit larger than Trail, Rossland and Castlegar.) Sure enough I got about 10 minutes into the drive before remembering I had not brought my camera along. Call is incipient oldsheimers, I’m getting fairly absent minded these days.

Well as shopping trips with me go I got everything but what I went for. only one shop that I could find had slippers and none my size. However I did find a wonderfully funny book “Enslaved by Ducks : How One Man Went from Head of the Household to Bottom of the Pecking Order” I just went into the bookstore for a moment. I swear I wasn’t going to buy anymore books, at least not until I go through the ever increasing lot on my to read shelf, but there it was staring me in the face and with a title like that how could I resist picking it up. Bad move I was sunk. Oh well it gave me something to read while I was having lunch :) . Then I wandered into a music store. I miss my piano and thought I’d see what was available in this area in electronic pianos with weighted keyboards. It’s a really good thing I’m still paying off my car or I might have walked out of there a couple of grand lighter after testing out some sweet Roland and Yamaha keyboards. I did however buy a stand for my guitar - maybe I’ll play more now that I don’t have to keep taking it out of its case ;) .

Time to go. One of the local coffee houses has an open jam session on Saturday nights and my neighbour in the house’s other apartment is playing there tonight so I’m going to go and give him some encouragement. He’s a 20 something from Japan on a 1 year stay in Canada to study guitar styles. He’s pretty hot, I hear him practicing all the time.

Now I know what orthotics are! I’d always thought
they were non-gay fleas, sensitive to green and blue light and occupying position1,2 on the benzen ring ;-)

Seriously, Doug, thanks for extending my vocabulary.

Hi, Doug,

Thanks so much for mentioning my book, “Enslaved By Ducks.” That cover seems to snag a lot of people, hahaha. I hope you enjoy the book.

You’re welcome Bob. Yes, I have to compliment you on the sneakiness of that title. I didn’t stand a chance ;-)

Thanks, Doug. The follow-up is tentatively titled “Fowl Weather.”

Hmmm…. Beaten by Birds would carry on the implied S&M flavour of the previous title LOL
