Another weekend in Salmo
Well another weekend “in the country” working on the garden. It’s really starting to take shape.

I laid down a lot of straw this weekend for weed control, four bales in fact. Also used it to mulch ther raspberry patch which is just beyond me along the fence.

While we were sitting out by the garden enjoying a sunny respite, and drinking home made Ginger Ale, from the deluge we’ve had recently a very large and beautiful butterfly landed nearby. I don’t know what species it is. I can’t recall having seen this one before. Unfortunately I could not get quite directly behind it for a straight on shot.

One of the highlights of the weekend was the sighting of a Pileated Woodpecker (Dryocopus pileatus) in Diane’s back yard.

Apparently she saw it on Friday and I saw it on Saturday so he’s hanging around the area. Both times it was in one of the maple tress in the back yard, maybe it’s nesting there. I’ll have to investigate more thoroughly. Unfortunately by the time I grabbed my camera he had flown up to a nearby power pole.
We joked that this was a “Looney Tunes” weekend because we saw Woody woodpecker and on our way home from Nelson Saturday night we also say Wiley Coyote as well as Bambi.
Of course for me the real highlight of the weekend, besides getting to spend it with my sweetie Diane, was seeing the “finished” portrait she painted of me and which is now up top on this blog (click on it for a bigger picture.) Thanks sweetie

Almost missed the note on the painting that Diane did. It’s a really nice work. Diane is very talented.
Not that you aren’t talented, too, Doug. Enjoyed the photos, and the garden looks spiffy.
