New Computer
So I’m finally biting the bullet and getting rid of this old p3 500 Win98SE mid tower (I’ll turn it into a ‘nix box at some point) and buying a new computer. The company got a great deal on laptops from Dell because we are a big client of their server sales side. I’m getting a Latitude D620 with 1GB RAM and the nVidia graphics upgrade (256MB VDRAM), a 100GB drive, bluetooth enabled - the works for just over a grand Canadian about $900 USD including shipping, handling and taxes.
- Intel® Core™ Duo T2300E (1.66GHz) 667Mhz Dual Core
- Genuine Windows® XP Professional, SP2, with media, English
- 14.1 inch Wide Screen WXGA LCD Panel

- 100GB Hard Drive, 9.5MM, 7200RPMv
- 24X CD-RW/DVD w/ Cyberlink PowerDVD
- 256MB NVIDIA® Quadro NVS 110M
- 6 Cell Primary Battery
- Dell Wireless® 350 Bluetooth Module
- Dell Wireless™ 1390 802.11a/g WLAN MINI

Savings over the cost via their online store is close to $1000 CDN. I hope I get it before I start my vacation in 4 weeks. Now I just have to figure out how to temporarily network it to my 98SE box so I can grab files off of it, as I’ve heard it’s a bit tricky. I think adding the NetBEUI protocol for XP will be easier than trying to do it via tcp/ip but we’ll see. I’m open to suggestions hint hint

my next laptop is going to be a Mac….*sad sigh* Never thought I’d give in but the opportunity to boot both OS X and XP is too much to pass up; too much of my work depends on software that seems to be optimized for Macs.

I know what you mean Adam - I was sorely tempted myself however the price on this one was too good to pass up. I might actually get a mini mac in the future and load both on there - If I can find the rtyicle I was reading the other day I’ll pass the info on to you about a different boot nloader for the Mac - not Boot Camp - that does a better job. Boot Camp only allows you to run one or the other at any given time, this other one (just released) will put XP in a virtual window and you can run both OS at the same time - in your job that will likely be handier.
