It’s Holiday Time
Well I’m on vacation for the next two weeks. Unlike most years where I go madly dashing off in all directions, this year I’m sticking close to home. 50Km close, which is to say I’ll be relaxing for two weeks in Salmo at Diane’s.
I seldom buy lottery tickets or enter contests because I just never win anything, even when the odds are good. So I expected that would be the outcome with the company’s new “Kudos” employee recognition plan. For the last couple of months fellow employees and managers could nominate other employees for a “kudo” for going beyond the call of duty as it were. Yesterday a company meeting was held and each of the “kudos” were read out. As I was busy in sales I was not able to attend even via phone but apparently I had several nominations. After they were all read out they were thrown into the hat and randomly drawn with hte last four drawn getting one of the prizes. Up for grabs were a 120GB USB external HDD with enclosure, a mini iPod, a programmable universal remote, and a set of really good headphones. It seems that one of the employees had his name drawn twice so one got tossed and on the redraw I won. The fun part was that the prizes were written down on paper and in envelopes with no way to tell what each envelope contained. Before they were opened some frantic trading attempts went on. The person whose name was pulled twice managed to convince one of the other winners to trade with him. It was a mistake on his part. When the envelopes were opened he had won the headphones and traded away the iPod which is what he really wanted LOL. So by now, knowing hat I’m not exactly a “lucky” guy you should be able toguess what I won. Yup I got the external 120GB USB HDD - I shouldhave waited two weeks before buying the 80GB external USB HDD with enclosure
which I couldn’t real;ly afford at the time, so now I have two. C’ést la vie! - Actually I don’t mind - now I have 300GB of storage available to me with 200GB on portable USB drives. With two external drives I will set up a regular back up routine and alternate between drives. Or maybe I’ll do a standard backup to one drive and then create .iso image for the other drive. Have to think about that one for a bit. In any case maybe I ought to start buying lottery tickets eh!

I used to enjoy taking mad trips on my vacation - driving Vancouver to Denver in 24 hours straight, riding my motorcycle from Vancouver to Monteray, 18 hours, for Laguna Seca Superbike Races, or more recently going from her to Vasncouver and then spending all my time visiting people. I’d always end up at the end of my hjolidays more tired rthan when I started. I’m getting to old for that other stuff so now its time to just relax
Yes it was fun talking to you today Ken - we’ll have to do it again sometime when I have more time to talk

Hey Doug and Diane, enjoy the vacation time. Sometimes those types of vacations are the best ones of all.
I haven’t taken one lately myself, but with the modest 5th wheel, more and more road trips are in the offing. One of thse days I’d like to take a run up your way for some sightseeing and pictures.
Nice talking to you today! Enjoy the R&R time!
