Help
Here’s what I want to do. I’m looking for suggestions on how I can do it.
I need to teach some techs at work how to security scan orders for potential frauds. As I work some 180mi away from the data center where the techs are this has to be done virtually. I have written a fairly comprehensive step by step manual but a lot of what I do is gut feel. What I think would work best, in conjunction with the manual, is a “movie” where I capture everything on screen as I do it in real time then add audio afterwards to explain why I did what I did. I just don’t know how to capture the data - I don’t want series of stills - screen shots, as for one thing I have no way of animating then like using flash etc - don’t have the software and don’t know how to use it. I’m open to ideas here except don’t tell me to get a Mac - that ain’t gonna win you any brownie points with anyone other than Steve Jobs

I went and had a look Ken and while it is a good program it most likely is not going to work.
I don’t want the webcam looking at me I want to capture my screen. I don’t need to appear on the screen at all. The webcam I have is not suitable for this. So basically I’m looking for a way to capture in real time everything I do on screen and make a “movie” out of it.

Doug,
Try Quick Screen Recorder (http://www.etrusoft.com/)for the screen capture portion, this program creates .avi videos of either a portion of your screen or the whole screen. I have used it for various training videos since I got up here.

Hey Ted - how’s it going up there? It’s been awhile since we’ve heard from you. As always everyone is swamped at work. Thanks for the tip I’ll have a look at it.

Hey Doug,
Things are good great up here. Other then the three feet of snow we are dealing with that is. I have managed to convince them to switch a few servers to Linux, which is great. I still cannot understand why anyone would want to spend the $470 for Windows Server 2003 Web edition when you can do the same thing for free, or the $730 for the Standard edition when all you want is a file server. Good luck with your presentation.

Doug - Take a look a software called VlogIt! by Serious Magic. Just announced Adobe is buying them a week or so ago. I use it for long training video things and some video blog posts. It’ll create a video that can be built like what you need. I bought the software for $50, but I think there’s a 30 day free tria. If so, it might get you through this one project and you can see if it’s what you’re looking for.
