Frequently I have to deal with crooks, and other undesirable characters in my daily working life as they attempt to defraud our company and use our services to launch criminal enterprises such as SPAM, DDoS and Phishing attacks.
Then some days you get to help some one do good. Real good. Something that will really help untold millions of people around the world. Today was such a day.
Gnosis - comes from the the Greek word for knowledge (γνώσις) and knowledge is what doctors and other medical personnel, particularly those in under developed countries, need in order to effectively use the resources available to them. One of the biggest knowledge problems health care professionals face in those areas is knowing who the patient is and their previous medical history. This is where Gnosis comes in
Gnosis has developed a clinic/hospital medical record keeping system for use in developing countries. This system is internet-based for rapid roll-out and ease of use. It will also work in locales where the internet is not available. The architecture of the system is modular and new capabilities can be added quickly. Plans are in place to add the following modules: dental, vaccination, AIDS patient management, nutrition, and eye examination.
It’s much more than that of course. There is also a World Health Monitor (currently running on a home computer so I won’t give you a link to it yet) where you can log in and using a menu select Disease Trends then from there specify the type of disease then the specific disease then a location and you will see all the clinics in that area that have reported that disease and then by clicking on each clinic icon the number of reported cases. Like I did below for Chicken Pox in Guatemala

So today Rogers Hellman the founder of Gnosis and this World Health Monitor project came to us looking for a better server solution, as this project is about to go viral, it has excited medical personnel in every country that’s been contacted. I worked with him to find the right solution, a quad core server with a fast connection. That made me feel really good. That’s one heck of a great project you have going there Rogers.
