This video of a robot dog funded via DARPA is incredible. The robot is carrying more weight, over 300lbs, than its own weight and handles all terrain that a normal dog could (although not as fast…yet). Watch how it’s balance is quickly restored when on slippery ice or when someone kicks it trying to knock it over. Scary stuff if you consider what they could be used for once their speed is up to snuff.
I have a file, fear.txt, I’ve been keeping and adding to for several years that contains stories and links to innovations that could lead sometime in the future, to a world we really don’t want, a Terminator world. Most people would scoff at the notion but they don’t stop to consider how foolhardy and smug we are as a species. We forge ahead too often without considering the long term consequences or simply for immediate gratification or profit and consequences be damned. One of these days I will have both the time and inclination to connect the dots in those articles and show you just how scary a future we might have one day.
