Moving Forward

The Government’s announcement of a Carbon Emissions program for large emitters is a step, a small step to be sure, but a step nonetheless in the right direction. I don’t often agree with and the but I have to give them credit for taking a positive step. Having said that, there are big problems with cap and trade systems. They are totally open to abuse and they are a , they don’t lead to reducing emissions but instead aim to keep emissions at current levels. That is not what we need. Here in BC we have a wealth of opportunities for alternative energy (, , , ) and industry should be encouraging the development of those energy sources while at the same time striving for in their own industry (even if that is impossible with current technology) and the government needs to do everything it can to encourage that.
