Well that was fun
It took me awhile but I finally figured out how to move all my mail from Thunderbird on XP to Thunderbird on Ubuntu. The biggest challenge was figuring out where Thunderbird keeps things on a Linux file system. If anyone reads this trying to figure out how to do it
- Copy your Thunderbird profile in XP ( /documents and settings/username/application data/thunderbird/profiles) to a USB drive if this is a full install of Ubuntu and not a virtual install inside XP, if it is installed as a virtual environment inside XP then you don’t need to do this
- boot up Ubuntu
- ALT-F2
- type in: nautilus ~/.mozilla-thunderbird
That will take you to your profile. Now do the same again but leave off the ~/.mozilla-thunderbird part and use (the equivalent of Explorer in XP) to find the profile you copied from XP. If you are operating in an Ubuntu virtual environment inside XP then look for the Host folder, that’s all your files inside Windows and then make your way to /documents and settings/username/application data/thunderbird/profiles open it and copy the xxxxx.default file to your profile directory in Thunderbird in Ubuntu then right click (in ) on the profile.ini file and edit it. You will need to change the name of the profile in it to the one you just copied over. Now delete the original profile that created when you first installed it. That’s it, you’re done
