A Mystery Solved

23 June, 2008 (17:56) | Personal

Last summer, shortly after moving in here, we noticed an area of the back yard was sinking a bit. It was spongy but oddly, it appeared to be perfectly circular. This year it started to sink even further.

We were concerned we might have a leaking sewer line. On the weekend I noticed what looked like a metal edge showing through the grass, and my curiosity prevailed - I had to know what was going on. So tonight I dug it out and sure enough there was a metal rim.

It turns out a previous owner had built a there and had used an aold galvanized washtub to create it :) What a bonus as we wanted a firepit, so now we have one :)

Nice!! A KENNEL DOOR for a GRATE? LOL. That’s almost YANKEE ingenuity!

We’re not going to use it as a grate - it’s really there to keep anyone from stepping into it - we’ll go out to the dump this weekend and rescue an old BBQ grate or get a friend to weld us up one.
