A moment of clarity
I’m back home again, hopefully I won’t have to go back to the coast anytime soon as I have come to hate Vancouver. While there I was exposed to a lot of TV stations I never watch here, in particular Spike TV which promotes itself as the Network For Men. Wow, really? I wonder which men they have in mind. The shows range from quite sexist to quite violent and very stupid, not surprisingly the politics are definitely right of center. What struck me was the amount of advertising on this channel for “”, and specifically for the almost certainly worthless and useless Enzyte.
It fascinated me to see this idea that men’s penises need “enhancement” being hammered home over and over again and got me to thinking about the audience that views this station regularly. Yes, on the mainstream channels like CBS, NBC, ABC etc you see somewhat discrete ads for Viagra etc., but at least they, unlike , are legitimate products that actually work. Now are they they a recurring, or major, theme in the shows themselves. Not so on .
It became quickly apparent that the target audience for this channel is the same male audience that is not just the focus of the campaigns but the very backbone of the party, and that this must say something about the inherent of leaning men. That they feel their “equipment” is inadequate and thus they must compensate for it by false bravado, glorifying war, condoning torture, invading countries, denying aid and medical care to those less fortunate because you know if they were truly deserving they would be successful and able to feed and care for themselves so obviously they are unfit (unless of course you are on Wall street in which case the aid is necessary), and all those horrors that the GOP perpetrate and so thoroughly believe in.
It was, for me at least, a very illuminating revelation.
