Illustrating the difference
I wish I could watch Britain’s Got Talent over here it seems eminently more realistic than its wannabe American clone, American Idol. Just for starters compare the names – one is looking for talent the other for an idol (and we all know that idols don’t necessarily need any talent other than good looks and a plastic personality). Then compare what’s required to qualify for a try out, Britain – no age limit, you got talent they want to hear/see it. American Idol sorry if you are over 30 and are not physically striking (read attractive) you are a has been and they are not interested in you. I think this says a lot about the respective cultures.
Look at the next two videos
Paul Potts (age 36), winner in 2007 – 1st audition
Susan Boyle (age 47) 1st audition – not embeddable click here
In Britain they got a chance at success and both succeeded, in America neither would have been accepted at the first audition. America your values are very badly twisted.
