Digging through the past
This very cool and the tech they created to do this with is very,very cool. Unlike the highly politicized Chicago School of Economics (Friedman et. al. responsible for disasters all over the world including Pinochet’s Chile and the recent economic collapse) The University of Chicago’s Archaeology department appears to be getting on with science. While Washington natters at the Iranians and (under Bush) threatened to bomb them back to the stone age, the archaeology department was arranging the loan of these valuable artifacts. Obviously they think it’s worth talking to the Iranians
New technologies and academic collaborations are helping scholars at the University of Chicago analyze hundreds of ancient documents in Aramaic, one of the Middle Easts oldest continuously spoken and written languages.
