Collision course
In honour of the LHC’s first particle collisions here’s a video that explains what is going on. I hope they schedule the first full power trials for December 21, 2012 at 11:11 am universal time
The entertainment factor of watching 2012 Mayan doomsday wingnuts explode over the next two years would be simply delicious
(Ya I’m an evil bastard – so what)

So far http://public.web.cern.ch/public/en/LHC/WhyLHC-en.html is the best explanation I’ve found. It’s not a video or animation but it’s designed for the laymen – this might help as well http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j50ZssEojtM

This is a wonderful explanation of “How” the LHC works. I wonder if there is a similarly easy-to-understand version of “Why” we are doing it. I am not a skeptic, just a layperson trying to get a better understanding. Thanks again.
