Buying Toys This Christmas?
No doubt some of you who read my drivel are parents of young children or you have grandchildren, nieces or nephews for whom you buy Christmas presents. In order to maximize pleasure and use of toys you can go to this site and use a formula devised by British psychologist Cliff Arnall for the British toy company Worlds Apart
There are 9 criteria to consider and assign a numerical value to when using this calculator
- PI: Individual play – is this your child’s preference
- PO: Play with others – how well does your child play with others?
- CR: Creativity – How stimulating is it? Does it promote imaginative play?
- S: Social – Does it promote social activity with family and others?
- U: Utility – Can it be played with all year around? Is it easy to store and transport?
- H: Hand Down – Is the toy robust enough to be passed through generations and still have relevence
- T: Time – how many hours a a week will it be played with
- L: Longevity: number of moths the toy will still be of interest to the child
- C: Cost – the calculator is set for UK £ but you can convert your currency to that here
The higher the final score the better the toy.
