Whether or not you voted for Barack Obama, this escalation of 30,000 troops to Afghanistan is not the HOPE he promised.
I am appalled, but hardly surprised, at Obama’s choice to escalate the war against the Afghan peoples. He has forsaken so many of his campaign promises and implied progressiveness (and yes I know that he has always been for escalating this war) that he seems to be vying with George Bush to see who can be the biggest failure as a president.
Please go sign the petition. Here is what I wrote.
President Obama, do you want to be remembered as the Democratic President who acted like a Republican pretending to be a Democrat or do you want to be remembered as the first truly progressive Democratic president in a long, long time. That’s your choice and your choice only. Right now it appears to many inside your country and many of us outside your country that you are aiming for the former, and that is truly a shame. It appears to ,any of us that you have abandoned all that fine rhetoric from the campaign trail and opted to be George Bush all over again.
Bring all the troops home, close all those overseas bases and take those hundreds of billions, if not trillions, of dollars saved and put them to work at home rebuilding your economy, putting people to work and giving them the real single payer health system that they so desperately need. To do any less will only prove to the people who elected you, and those of us unable to vote but who none the less cheered you and your supporters on from distant sidelines, that you are working for Wall street and the Military Industrial Complex, to enrich them, and that you are not working for Main Street , the ones who elected you. It’s your choice, the busk stops with you.
